If your daughter requires off-site medical or dental care, we’ll arrange the appointment, transport her, and chaperone the visit. You’ll be notified promptly by our health staff.Lice Checks
All campers are screened for head lice upon arrival. Please remind your camper not to share personal items like brushes or helmets. -
Campers are supervised by trained staff at all times. Certified lifeguards monitor swimming, and we have strict health and safety protocols, head lice checks on arrival, and 24/7 healthcare access on-site.

All swim instructors are Red Cross Lifeguard certified. Many counselors are former campers who’ve completed a two-year counselor-in-training program. Riding instructors have extensive riding experience. Counselors are at least 18 and selected for leadership and character. All counselors are annually CPR certified. In addition, our entire staff is regularly trained in emergency evacuation procedures.

Parents of registered campers will receive details about designated Visiting Days, held at the end of each two-week session. To preserve the rhythm of camp life, we kindly ask that families not visit during the middle weekend of a session. While visiting, we encourage you to explore the beautiful Shenandoah Valley nearby. Please note: Only parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, or siblings age 21+ may take a camper off grounds, and must check out at the office before leaving camp.

Campers love to receive mail from home, which is a real treat for both campers and parents when the 21st-century norm has become paperless communication. The mail is picked up and delivered to camp every day.
You can send mail to the camp address:
Camp Strawderman
2494 Dellinger Acres Road
Edinburg, VA 22824
Please include your camper’s name and cabin. -
Packages are permitted, but parents are asked to consider non-food items when sending. If you choose to send snacks, please make sure that you include a plastic bin with a lid for storage in the cabin. It can be a problem for those campers with food allergies who live in the same cabin. Also, food stored in the cabins is not encouraged in order to promote the healthy diet already arranged and to keep the cabins from becoming a temptation for field mice. We suggest that you include items such as small games, magazines, and other things that might be fun to share.

More and more, you read about the invasion of cell phones into camp life. They are disruptive to purpose, to program, and to developing camp friendships.
Although cell phones have not been a problem at Camp Strawderman, we do not wish for them to become one. So, we ask that you honor our request that campers only bring cell phones to Strawderman for the sole purpose of taking photos/videos of their friends, activities and the natural beauty that surrounds them. We operate on an honor system. Cell phone calls and texts are not allowed at Camp Strawderman. A camper who fails to adhere to this policy will have their phone kept in the camp office until the child gets picked up. Phones must be kept in airplane mode. View the suggested packing list here.
-
Because of the continuing support and generosity of former campers and friends of Camp Strawderman, we can offer a limited number of scholarships annually to campers who have financial need. If you are interested in applying for assistance, click here. Please return the application by May 1st.
-
Laundry is picked up once a week by a commercial laundry. This is recommended for campers who are staying longer than two weeks. For those who choose to send laundry out, laundry is charged to the camper’s account at the rate of $2.00 per pound.
-
We would like to take this opportunity to remind campers and parents that items which use electricity are not encouraged at camp due to the low number of outlets and the limited power sources available to each cabin. Camp Strawderman is a rustic camp, a place away from urban and suburban life. Also, parents, please note that Strawderman does provide a large fan for each cabin so campers do not need to bring their own individual fans. View the suggested packing list here.
